We came here for an early dinner and placed a reservation via the Yelp app. We only need to wait about 15 minutes before being seated inside. The restaurant is smaller and can get warm especially in the summer months. We decided to try the spring rolls and the Szechuan noodles. The spring rolls were fried to a crisp perfection and had a nice balance of filling as well. The sweet & sour sauce paired with the spring rolls tasted great. The Szechuan noodles came out fresh from the kitchen, with the hand-pulled noodles and homemade sauce. The waiter mixed the sauce in for us and graciously served us. I loved the bouncy texture of the fresh noodles and the sauce was a nice balance of spicy and peppery flavor. Overall, I highly recommend coming here and trying their fresh noodle dishes!

This was my first visit. It's a Saturday night and the place was busy. The dining area isn't huge, but they make it seem so by adding wall mirrors. They also have three fans mounted to increase the air flow through the room it doesn't feel stuffy at all. Normally, I order chow fun as my litmus test dish. However, seeing the kitchen staff prepare the housemade noodles, I decided that I ~had~ to try them. I ordered the beef tomato chow mein and opted for the extra $1 to get the house noodles. I also ordered the spicy eggplant dish. Plus a bit of rice. There was already a pot of tea on the table. The food came out very quickly. The noodles looked delectable! Tasted good! Generous portion. Although the sauce was a little sweet, the flavor was good. I liked both dishes.

From the first time I ate at Shan Dong over a decade ago, I knew things would be different from that point forward. Although known for their fresh handmade noodles which you can witness being made at the restaurant are incredible, everything on the menu that I have tried has been outstanding. While I am open to eating at other Chinese restaurants, I have yet to find one on Shan Dong's level. If going to dine in, it must be noted that the place is small and there will likely be a wait which in my experience is more than worth it!

I recently returned to Shandong, and it still has the same great flavors! Got the Shandong Chicken and Wonton Noodle Soup, and both were fantastic and just as I remembered them. Some things to remember especially for those visiting from out of state: - It seems like a lot of restaurants in the Bay Area have hours where they close for a period between lunch and dinner. It is the same for Shan Dong, so be mindful to not try to go too close to their closing time at lunch otherwise they might not take your table. - It seems standard for Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area to charge for rice. Shandong charges $2/bowl, but compared to another local Oakland restaurant that charged $4 or $5 (highway robbery!!!!), it seems fairly reasonable for the area. - It can get very crowded in the restaurant and bathrooms are not the cleanest, but I come here for the food not atmosphere. Very satisfied with my experience and I always look forward to eating at Shandong every time I'm in Oakland! I hope this restaurant continues to flourish and bless the area with their wonderful food.

This was the hidden gem in the heart of Oakland Chinatown. This is a family style small seating so make sure you go there early. They make hand pulled noodles. It was so yum that we couldn't stop eating. We also ordered spicy fish with black bean sauce it was delicious. Ordered mushroom soup and veg dumplings they're not disappointing. The service was excellent and fast. I'd go back there with bunch of my friends who love Chinese cuisine.

I have heard so many great things about Shandong and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Growing up eating at Chinese restaurants, I always found that my favorite restaurants always made amazing handmade noodles. Shandong is no different Their chow mein with house-made noodles were top tier. I'm already thinking about the next time I can go back to try them again. The salt and pepper squid, green beans, and beef dish were also all phenomenal. It's some of the best Chinese food I've had in a while. All the portions were big and for a great price. The inside of this restaurant is always busy and bustling and there is usually a wait time, but it is so worth it.

I've been in DT Oakland for the past decade or so for a conference every year, and my friend recommended this spot. I'm glad to finally check this out. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking, usually metered parking. Seating: Great for groups. Room for about 70 people with good groups for 5 or more. Vibes: Welcome to Downtown Oakland. You're close to a lot of other good eatery spots, historical monuments, and other pleasant sightseeing places. The place itself is nothing too flashy. It's a grit and grind area, but they are unapologetically proud of their social recognitions. There's nice pop music in the background. Great place for a food adventure or family/groups. FOOD: Deluxe Combination Chow Mein (Recommend) This is a wonderful medley of beef, bok choy, bean sprouts, onions and chicken with their hand-cut signature noodles. The noodles were truly one of a kind, from their appearance to their soft/chewy texture and nutty flavor. The sauce was reasonably mixed around, which made it pretty savory. Be sure to ask for some hot sauce! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Ordered for pick up and they were prepared! TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Fantastic! Good food, reasonable prices, and a calming experience. Yes there are lot of food choices here but their noodles really do stand out. I appreciate the delicious food and their hard work. Wishing the best to Charles Hung, family, and team on their business! TIPS: * Too many choices! I think this 5 item deal is such a good one that I had to circle back for lunch with the Team. 5 for $59.95 We had: Beef and broccoli Prawn with green beans Fish in wine sauce Shandong Chicken Eggplant in Szechuan sauce White rice and Deluxe Combo chow mien with house noodles Parking was an adventure but Service was fast and friendly. Food came out fast with fresh hot vegetables-yum! Great experience.

No other hand-pulled noodles in town could compare!!! Pay the extra $1 for fresh noodles they make in-house, right up front. My go-tos are the green beans, spicy fish in black sauce, coconut shrimp, and of course the sesame noodles are a must. Cons: I'd watch the hours since they close for lunch, and parking in the area is a bit tough. I'd give a 10/5 if I could!
